I was just thinking of this this morning. What do you guys think of a PVR with a built in LAN connection. So that you can connect your PVR to your Internet connection. Then with that capability allow users to stream videos via the internet via the PVR on the TV. Hope I am making sense. Seeing that they are launching the online box office soon. I'm sure with the above mentioned option, they will be able to provide more movies and then maybe you can stream the movies to you HDD and after 2days it can be deleted. Or something like that.

Opinions, criticism ?

My apologies if something like that is available already

Its there..

it will never be enabled... MC will never give us that functionality, so just move on and stop dreaming.

Yeah, its already available :-) Have a look at the back of a DSTV 4 LNB HD PVR, like mine :-)
Yeah, all the HDPVRs have ethernet ports, but I dont think they can be used for video streaming. Their decoder chips are designed to handle the DVB-S & DVB-S2 satellite signal formats.

DVB-IP is a slightly different format requiring a decoder chip designed to handle it e.g MC DSTV-IP HD-1 decoder they deploying in gated communites/hotels etc.

The HDPVR2P is being developed as an IPTV STB for gated communities. That is what it is for. Nothing else. They already have a non-PVR version IPTV decoder, that is fully developed.

You sure thats not a different Pace (or UEC) hybrid model e.g. http://www.pace.com/global/products-capabilities/products/dis-series/ .From what I can see the current Pace TDS865 (2P) is not capable of DVB-IP like the DSTV-IP HD-1 https://care.dstv.com/images/misc/dvb_equipment.jpg

I'm sure... at least, that is the last I heard from the MC IPTV developers. The 2P will be the IP PVR decoder.

The second link is the already developed one, without PVR. I've got one running in my office...

Mmm, would luv to see them pull this rabbit out the hat on a low power SoC platform whose hw specs are deviod of any reference to being designed/optimised for DVB-IP. It seems the ethernet port is designed to support IP data communication for things like interactive services, not DVB streaming.

Will put this on the wait and see list together with 1080i/720p HD broadcast format flipping on the fly.

I know, we have a few of them running at our offices too. The difference is the HD-1 is a purpose designed DVB over IP hw platform, not some retrofitted Sat decoder ... http://www.uec.co.za/products/did4614-hd-mpeg-4-ip-stbpvr
