We are looking for a very strong Python and Django developer for a contracting positions within a humanitarian agency for a 3 month initial contract with extension possibilities. Very competitive rates will be applicable to the right candidates. The roles will offer the opportunity to be involved in all phases of application development including analysis, design, build, testing and deploying code.
The incumbents will be responsible for:
1. Ensuring the analysis and development process that is currently in place is streamlined and efficient.
2. Conducting, leading and co-ordinating software development activities throughout the project, including key design decisions for the technology, structure and configuration of the system.
3. Provide technical expertise in terms of software usage, functionality, performance, aesthetics, resilience, and re-use.
4. Provides production ready deliverables respecting the agile values with more attention to: Continuous and early feedback; frequent releases; and incremental building.
Essential day to day responsibilities
• Assigns development tasks to developers, manage the work of junior and senior developers
• Awards priority on development tasks based on Business Analyst, Project Manager and Technical Architect’s wishes
• Ensures code robustness
• Assumes responsibility for code delivery and timeliness
• Understands the functional and technical issues and prioritises accordingly
• Collaborates with architects and senior software developers on design decisions and direction for application requirements and consults with project lead on identification of problems and suggest solutions for the resolution of coding issues
• Provides recommendations for functional and technical issues to Project Manager and Technical Architect
• Ensures technical documentation is available and up to date
• Design, develop and deliver software using Python and Django framework
• Manage time effectively
• Participate in requirement gathering process, propose solution, and create design documents
• Provide timely and accurate communication of status to team, project and technical leads
Educational qualifications:
Degree, preferably in Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or other related field
- At least 2 +years in interacting with customers directly in technical/functional role
Required Interpersonal Skills:
• Results-driven, team-oriented, self-motivated professional who is able to combine exceptional technical credentials with a high degree of business acumen and effective communication skills.
• Reliable and will take leadership over the delivery of software. This role needs to micro manage the development activity to ensure they meet their weekly targets and to understand and report if/why this hasn’t happened.
• Pro-active and autonomous.
Required Technical Skills :
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to solve complex problems independently and gather expert advice as needed
• Ability to focus on delivering results in a dynamic environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities
5+ years of experience working in related technologies:
• Object-oriented design, including Design Patterns and Best Practices
• Web Services development experience, REST, SOAP
• Agile development processes
• SQL RDBMS (Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server)
