What do you guy get when using a download manager like Flashget that fragments files into 5 parts ???

I get a constant 32 or 33 KB/s when downloading large files on my
256 Packages

Speed tests go up and down but Flashget gives you the average download speed for the file you are downloading

Damn Rodent thats just plain messed up...you have no doubt already tried this, but have u attempted using someone else's account through your modem/tower combination, and in turn tried using your account on someone else's modem/tower combination?

Average of just over 10kB since 11am up to now. This average includes my 'normal surfing' over and above downloading a 400meg file using a download manager as well - and this is on a 256k connection.

Last night from about 18:00 until 00:30, average was 7.5kB downloading said large file. This average also includes 'normal' surfing in between. (I stopped the download from 00:30 to this morning at 11am as the download was being done on my workstation and not the 'always-on' server).

Not such a bad idea Lewstherin.......

Has anyone tried that?????

I doubt that sentech has the ability to choke certain accounts and if they are doing that...

well....... they are bigger fools than they are showing

The idea is to rule out whether or not Rodent's account or modem are somehow causing his poor bandwidth...but like I said, it has probably been tried already by Master Rodent [;)]

Using Download Accelerator Plus with 10 concurrent connections i average 6kb/s and on a good day i might hit 10kb/s for a min or 2.

I haven't seen more than 6KBps since Wednesday 16th. Most of the time I get about 3 - 4 KB/s, sometimes 1 - 2. I occasionally only get 6 if it's like 3 a.m., and only then sometimes and for brief periods of time. Before last Wednesday I averaged about 9 - 10 KB/s, and would get about 12 - 13 late at night. My setup is exactly the same as it was before. These problems are not on Rodent's side, Rodent is not the only one, a number of other people have said on this forum that they've had crappy speeds since last week (like me), still a number of others have had crappy speeds for months now ... this has all been discussed and analysed to death already on these forums and elsewhere, and we've had a number of admissions from Sentech itself that there are problems with their network. Honestly, there is simply nothing more to say or do or debug or time or analyse or test - nothing left but to wait for Sentech to fix it (or, seemingly, not fix it). Everything that can be "ruled out" has already been ruled out, multiple times over by now.

And there is no reason why anyone should require the use of parallel downloads (download accelerators) just to get more than 33.6 DIAL-UP SPEEDS to a local site (a few hops away) on a so-called "broadband" connection, or on pretty much ANY kind of Internet connection for that matter. I can get faster speeds right now just dialing into ABSA with my old 33.6 modem, no download accelerators required.

No one said we require anything

i get an average of 27KB/s without download managers, they just allow me to constantly max out the
maximum bandwith a 256 connection can offer

So I was wondering what they do for those with problems

I get wildly varying speeds between disconnections and reconnections. I get wildly varying speeds depending on whether it's high tide or low tide.

I've naturally used a few other towers too. With wildy varying slow results too. My problem with the entire issue is: Before the 29th of April this thing was HUMMING. For EVERYONE.

I picked ip something weird. When I use a download manager with 2 simultaneous connections, the one finished long before the other one. Where usually both connections' speed should average out, with sentech one of the two complete long before the other one does. This doesn't make sense. Anyone else has this problem?

No problem like that no

Rodent

I really hope the meeting you have on Monday with Sentech still happens... you might be an unwilling champion BUT, like it or not, you've certainly become the voice for those of us struggling.

I hope you can push for some straight answers.

I personally would be happy with AVERAGE speeds if they were only stable....

Good luck Rodent - don't take poefie from them. I think things are really sucking at the moment and they just get stummer by the day.

It's an insult the way they are treating us...

Such arrogance...anyone still have Dr Potgieter's email address? I think it's time for a heart to heart.
