Q6600 core Temp

Hi.

I just bought a Q6600 today and put it in an Asus P5K Deluxe Wifi.
From the moment I switched on ... the CPU has been idling at 55c and the fan is blowing hard ...
I assume this is NOT normal ... what could be the problem?

I also have Q6600 on an Asus P5K Deluxe Wifi board.

My temps are as follow:

All 4 cores idling at 45c (This is temps taken by Everest Ultimate)

In Speedfan 4.33 it measures all 4 cores at 30cc during idle.

So who know what the actual temps are :)
 
I'm busy running SuperPI and my temps are at 65/67c :( ... there must be some cooling problem ... tomorrow I'm gonna go buy silver based thermal paste tomorrow and see if that helps ... I'm using the motherboard/Asus readouts.
 
Now I'm really confused. I just ran 3D Mark 06 and My score yesterday with an E4500 and my score today with a Q6600 are nearly Identical. The CPU scores were very similar ... why could it be that my cpu is performing so rubbish? ... I'm running a 6600GT ... could that have limited the score of the E4500 and be limiting the score of my Q6600?
 
should not effect your cpu score

your vga is a bottleneck but that cpu score should not be affected

you quaddie is very hot, what kind of cooling do you have in your box? is it a cheapy box or one with good cooling options

you cpu maybe under performing because its getting so hot

update your mobo bios as well

get yourself speedfan core temp, dont trust that asus reading
 
Depending on temp outside my Q6600 B3 used to idle in the 50's with stock cooling never mind doing anything with it :p

Now idles high 30's with a TR 120

I feel u shud not even run 3dmarks with that gfx card, most def. holding the mighty quad back. Try running PC marks05 to get a clear indication of performance increase. My CPU runs at 38 idle, and that's measured using the TT hardcano 12 with physical thermistors. It's very unlikely that your cpu is running at 66 degrees, unless u really installed it incorrectly.

My box isn't a name brand ... but its a really nice box ... but a while ago I took out the fans cause my box was getting tons of dust ... maybe I will reintroduce the fans. I am looking to buy another box ... either second hand or brand new.
 
Try running it without a cover. If the temps are a lot less then the ambient temp in the case is the problem.

The 3dmark score will be the same because 3dmark does not use all cores afaik. In a real world situation with newer games you should see a noticeable difference.

Also check what the Q-fan setting on the P5K is.
 
Also ... the PSU I bought today only has the 4 pin connection to the motherboard, not the 8pin ... could that affect performance? I bought the Coolermaster 650W Extreme Power ... but I'm thinking of changing it for a Aerocool 620Watt ZeroDBA Gamers Series.
 
Ok ... so I installed speedfan. According to it ... my CPU Temp is idle at 56, System at 43, Cores 0 to 3 at 32, HDD at 43 and Aux at 127 (What is this) ... Tomorrow I will go buy proper thermal paste which should help quite a bit compared to the rubbish intel gives us.
 
yea man

eitai do yourself a favour instead of replacing your psu go and buy an aerocool zero degree for about 600 bucks

set the fan to blow air into your box, you will be amazing the difference a 25cm fan can make to temps

to many fans in a box can cause alot of heat if the airflow aint correct
 
I still wanna replace the PSU though ... it will only cost me like R70 more ... and am waiting to see how much I can get either a 2nd hand CM Stacker for (1st model) or a 2nd Hand Antec Performance Plusview 1000 AMG

Also ... what do you think of the Aerocool ExtremeEngine 3T ... I prefer the look more, and its cheaper. Only there is no side windows ... but thats not the end of the world ... I like the jet on the front.

you would be silly to buy anything but that aerocool

i would have bought it if i had not bought 3 boxes in the last year

my g/f would kill me if she saw another box :(
 
Which one is Amazing ... the Extreme Engine 3T or the Other one ... I prefer the Extreme Engine.
