Qantas Airbus A380 Engine failure

I don't think it was sabotage. However, volcanic ash can be a culprit. And there is a good possibility of exactly that to have happened!

Not exactly the same thing now is it. In my eyes the engines are completely seperate from the Airbus airframe and installed systems. If it was a design flaw and the wing detached because the engine had a hissy fit, then yes....Airbus would be responsible because the wing aint supposed to come off....but this was clearly a engine failure only and should be treated as such.


MMM??? Other aircraft uses RR as well. So perhaps it is a mix of airframe use, engine problem, pilot uses, bird strike ash in air?

Yes, other aircraft use RR engines but they use different RR engines. A380 uses the Trent 900 which is completely different to say for example, an RB211

This incident is most probably just the result of a manufacturing fault with the parts used on that certain engine.

Just read all the posts now. Seems light weight construction to save feul might be a posibility?
When I hward that second plane from same airport I thought...migrating birds or storms out that way might have had some contributing factors?

Saw pictures now. Man I whould have gone pale (and brown at the same time) if I was sitting next to that engine LOL.

And why do you say that? Even without knowing much about volcanic ash and let engines, one should wonder why the airline industry reacts so 'overboard' when it comes to just that. There is a study published on the net (google it) regarding volcanic ash and let (aeroplane) engines. Did you knew, if one heats volcanic ash to roughly 1000deg C. you end up with a sticky substance with a melting point roughly around the same as on the final stages of the jet turbine (don't confuse with the compressor stages)? When ash enters into a Jet engine, the engines will shut down. They wont explode sending shrapnel everywhere. Also why would only one engine fail? If there was volcanic ash up there then wouldn't all engines fail? Not ruling it out, just saying it's hugely unlikely.

Oil leaks were reported on other planes. Might be a clue. If the bearings run dry then a wobble could happen in the turbine
