Purpose of the job
The primary responsibility of this role would be the execution of the BI strategy and vision and for managing the day-to-day tactical operations of the BI teams. He/she will be responsible for all strategic, tactical, operational, financial, human, and technical resource managerial responsibilities associated various BI functions
Key Accountabilities
• Responsible for planning and coordinating the processes required for the provision of user applications and systems necessary for business operations.
• Develops a short and long-term business intelligence roadmap that is consistent with the needs and priorities of the business.
• Ensures that effective business relationships with internal external customers / co-workers are developed and maintained.
• Formulates and administers approved policies throughout the organization.
• Has accountability for performance, development and coaching of staff (i.e. hiring, firing, performance management, salary increases, etc.).
• Ensures the department has a sufficient number of trained staff to provide necessary levels of service and achieve department performance results
• Reporting, descriptive analytics and data exploration
• Information delivery through the enterprises BI Tool
• Operationalizing data and information
• Finding ways to leverage existing enterprise data and information in company's products and services.
• Enterprise / Corporate Performance Management. Management and governance of strategies, goals, objectives, metrics, KPIs/KPMs. Optionally, enterprise scorecards (Balanced Scorecard, etc)
• GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) aspects of BI and data management
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business related discipline is preferred. Equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered. Completion of pertinent certification(s) and / or an advanced degree preferred
Experience
• Minimum 3+ years related experience in managing multiple, cross-function BI teams and projects.
• Previous supervisory / managerial experience including a proven track record of performance management.
Knowledge
• Knowledge and experience working with and implementing recognised Business Intelligences and Analytics tools and technologies (OLAP, Decision and Process Engineering, SAS, Qlik, Microsoft, Open Source tools and languages, etc.)
• A solid understanding of key BI trends.
• A solid understanding of leading edge BI technologies and best practices
• A solid understanding of the BI vendor landscape
Skills and Behavioural Attributes
• BI Specialist resource that must hit the ground running given the absence of such disciplines in the organisation.
• Must have strong technical skills to give guidance to a small team of specialist staff
• Effective communication and influencing abilities; able to build and develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
