Hi there,
I am trying to set QoS on my router to limit download speeds in order to have a better gaming experience while someone else downloads on the same network.
Assuming this will work I need help understanding the following:
On my billion router I have some lines which I am sure I need to enter data into...(it doesnt look exactly like this but more or less all that stands out in the menu to me)
Packet type: Any
Data Ratio [ ]%
Local Application Ports From [ ] To [ ]
Remote application Ports From [ ] To [ ]
I would set the same rule from LAN to WAN (I assume upload) and WAN to LAN (I assume download)
I understand that http is usually port80. I assume this means normal downloads as well. So do I just enter port80 into all fields and set a limit of say 25-50% data ratio? The heavy downloader in question seldom uses any other means of download other than browser standard so I assume it is all http for now.
To me this means any remote or local connection using port80 would be limited to 50% data ration only.
Would this work? I don't have a chance to test it right now but you know when you have an idea and just need to know if it does work
Bare in mind I know very little about these things.
EDIT: Just to add - the games I play I struggle to determine what ports are being used even if I use netstat so although I know if I simply prioritise the ports the game uses it would work but for now I have to rather try limit the downloads as I can't determine the correct ports for the game.
EDIT2: Hope this does belong in the gaming section of the forums as I assume if this is answered it would benefit a lot of gamers out there. Some googling shows so many people with the same dilemma but no answer
*frustration
