I want to setup QoS on a broadband router to give preference to VoIP calls but it looks very complicated. Can anyone help with a simple setup.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for a general overview for use with SIP. I need to buy a new router for a call shop.

By broadband router I take it you dont mean an end-to-end diginet? QOS will do precious little over Telkoms MPLS network.

I'm using the term QoS like I know what I'm talking about, which actually I don't. Basically an internet cafe wants to start a call shop section and wants to make sure the call data has priority over the computers to maintain call quality. (using G729a... what the 'a' at the end means is also a mystery to me)

Thanks for your replies.

G729a is a codec thats 100% compatible with the 'real' G729, but uses a different encoding/decoding algorithm internally. It requires about half the processing power for a minimal drop in speech quality (-0.3 MOS, MOS = speech quality rating)
