My previous phone had 2FA set up for the Luno app, using Authenticator.

I am not sure how to set it up for the Luno app on my new phone.

Assistance would be appreciated.

When I sign into the app on the new phone it prompts me to enter the code, but of course (it being a new phone) I do not have the account set up in Authenticator and I am not sure where to find the code.

You need to use the old phone to get the code. Or retrieve the code they told you so very nicely to save when you set up 2FA the first time.

shout tone initiated

LET THIS SERVE AS A WARNING TO ANYONE IN CRYPTO ENSURE THIS INFO IS BACKED UP - LUNO MIGHT BE NICE AND HELP BUT THERE ARE EXCHANGES THAT WONT.

hope you come right

On the old phone press the hamburger menu and export the codes then scan them into the new phone.

Authenticator can back up as well now.
Im looking at getting a new phone this year, been thinking about this (And the ballache I had last time with FNB app and getting blocked..)..So in theory it shouldnt be a hassle to retrieve my backup on a new phone?

i wrote down my backup codes just in case my phone got stolen or broke etc.
Always the best approach, I had three back ups at a stage including codes locked in a safe. Don't be the person that can't access your crypto cause you lost your phone. It happens.

couple of options:

1: use your old phone to import to the new phone

2: remember that backup you made when your authenticator app prompted you to? no? yeah neither can I, nobody does that, but it works fyi

3: re-KYC with your provider, more or less what is required in one shape or form when you ask them to reset it for you

4: if you happen to have more than one phone in active use or you have a wife/partner/etc that you genuinely trust ... have a backup authenticator app running on that other phone in the event you lose your phone

Or use authy?

Thanks for all the help. I ended up requesting Luno to disable 2FA.

sure that works, but it introduces a similar vulnerability as #4 I listed: now there is another copy of your 2FA codes out in the wild (in this case online), which is not as secure as having it completely offline and having only one copy of it

although tbh my biggest gripe with Authy is just how bloated it is compared to Google Authenticator, try it on a more budget phone and watch it grind, Google Authenticator is so simple and small it just runs well on anything

I guess the online backup (although encrypted) is the trade-off. I personally like that I can access my authy from phone, tablet or laptop.
