does anybody know where I can get a Quad channel graphics card
in south africa seems every where I go they say never heard of it , or the used to have it but dont anymore anyone out there know where I can get one

please please!!

Explain "Quad Channel".

Do you want a graphics card with 4 monitor ports (there ain't any, at least none that I know of, highest I have seen is a graphics card with that supports 3 monitors - Matrox Parhelia) or do you mean a graphics card with 4 processors (think the nVidia Quatro line has 4 processors).

What's the best graphics card for getting the best picture from pc to plasma screen?

You will have to say what kind of picture, if you want anybody to be able to answer that.

And I have heard of quad GPU and quad pipeline cards, but never of a quad channel one.

Well if your Plasma has either DVI or an RGB connector then any GFX card will do just fine, but getting a better card is advised. Something like a 6600GT or better would be great.

Just check if your plasma has DVI or RGB if so(most of them do) then you can hook it up like a regular monitor.

Angellus, why is a fancy card needed for watching DVD's? I thought even the most basic ones on sale these days would be able to handle the DVD decoding.

Yes, I forgot about that, if the plasma have some kind of VGA port, then an S-Video connection is not needed.

Thanx, guys

My plasma has RGB, S-video and DVI inputs. My dvd player does not have RGB out, only S-video and composite, and the picture isn't that good with those outputs. I connected a laptop to my plasma (with VGA) and that looked very good.

So I thought, instead of buying another dvd player or a recorder with dvi out or RGB out, I use my pc instead. But I will need a dvd writer and a graphics card.

In that case any current graphics card should do, including an the onboard graphics you might already have on you PC's motherboard. Note, it you want to use it as a PVR, then you will need more, to take video in.

Yes, I want to use it as a PVR. It needs to record stereo sound.

Hey guys, stop hijacking funday's thread :p

To answer his original question: Yes, there are quad channel GFX cards and they are available in SA... but at a pretty steep price. There are other options besides NVidia's Quaddro range that are sustantially cheaper.

If you don't necessarily require DVI output, an even cheaper option might be to purchase 1x AGP/PCI-e card, and 2x PCI GFX cards.

PM me if you require pricing.

Was wondering when u guys would catch on :p

Anywayz, thanks for the info. Thought it might be fun to resurrect an archaic thread to post my query :)

Well spotted Person. Now I am also wondering why Ajax did not just create a new thread. (And in the hardware section.)

Ajax, you probably need to look at some kind of VIVO card then. ATI makes the best ones in my opinion. And maybe something to handle the sound. It all depends on what you already have.

Mave a look at this article for some ideas:
