Quadro vs Geforce

It takes Nvidia and AMD quite a lot of effort to certify their drivers for professional applications a lot of it where accuracy and reliability is very important. Nvidia and AMD are being kind to gamers for not adding this cost to their consumer line of cards and in stead making professional users pay more.

In turn Quadro cards have optimised drivers for OpenGL on which most professional applications are based. I have to say that this seems to be changing though with a lot of packages, notably Autodesk, also now using DirectX for some of them. AMDs consumer cards for example work pretty well with professional apps due to having a fast OpenGL driver, but the uncertified drivers mean you see a lot of glitches and are sometimes unable to access some fancy rendering modes on your professional apps.

If your jobs depends on the accuracy of your work and reliability to meet deadlines then you'd be silly not to use a workstation card.
