quake 4 online probs

help me pls....

copied all the files from http://games.saix.net/sgs/q4/q4base/ into my q4base directory and my game does not now work

get the ff:

ERROR: Couldn't load default.cfg - Check your working folder.

can i fix this without any re-install

check the SGS forum thread on the Q4 issues, i gave up seeing you needed a dozen downloads to get the game running on SGS servers, which by the way are almost empty all the time.

i try to connect to one of the servers they mention the q4base folder, i download everything in that folder , i try and run my game and it is scr**ed!! yeah read that thread about getting quake 4 MP to run on the local servers. too complicated, coding the game i guess would have been easier ... (note my sarcasm here)

btw where is the default.cfg file, i cant locate it any in my quake 4 install. can maybe someone post whats in that file and then i can copy it into notepad and save

why did those guys make things so complicated. really dont mind playing the vanilla version of the game. dont need the mods esp if it is sooo complictaed to get it to run!

Where did you place those files ?
Not directly into the q4base folder, surely ?

If you did, you just overwrote some of the main pak files from the game, so simply get your install DVD/CD's and get the pak files of there and overwrite the pak files again.

Whoever gave those pak4 files those names, committed a hideous sin, it's the WORST thing you can do with quake - doh !

yeah overwrote everything ... reinstaleld the game again. yup downloaded q4max, up and running now. the pak002 file is around a couple of meg on the ftp server, installed off the cd it is 210mb! ... really stupid to put all those pk files in that folder, suggest someone who is responsible for that saix folder better remove those pk files and only put the ones needed

yes i did with q4max and stuff ... i usually go on about 8pm everyday but the servers are empty ... go under the alias "msv"
