I am using my Nokia 2710 as a GPRS modem, tethered to my PC by USB cable. I would like to be able to dial *141# to get my data bundle balance, from code running on my PC while I am online. My eventual goal is to build a Windows 7 Gadget to keep tabs, instead of having to dial on my phone all the time.

How can I achieve this? I am using HyperTerminal Private, but it always wants to dial to start a connection, and if I try and tell it the number to dial is *141#, it doesn't dial because their is no dial tone.

I think that you may be trying to reinvent the wheel...

Have a look at MWconn: http://www.mwconn.net/

It takes a bit of setting up but its very good!

However, because you have a mobile phone with a single USB interface you'll only get a balance when not connected via GPRS.

3G modems have at least two or more USB interfaces built-in, one for data and the other is the user interface (UI) plus most have a diagnostic port.
