That is what I get normally on my E220. On my B970, the upload typically goes up to about 800 kb/s

I assume we're all on 3.6 now, at home my B970 tells me I am connected at 7.2.

I don't think I've ever achieved more than 1.4 Mb/s. I am in the Randburg area on prepaid, normally on almost full signal. Are the towers there struggling a bit?

The 7.2 refers to the connection speed Windows detects the device at, and has no bearing on your speed from Vodacom.

If you are not getting more than 1.4 while sustaining good signal it probably indicates that there is a backhaul problem with your tower (i.e. Vodacom is waiting for Telkom to install more lines).

How good is Telkom at that?

At home, I need to use an external antennae to get reception. Cellphones can't be used in the house as there isn't any reception in the house. That is my reason for buying the B970, I needed a modem with a plug for an antennae and Wifi is a nice to have too. So I think my area is in need of improvement. (Sundowner, Randburg)

Not very

So what you are actually saying is that you are not in a coverage area? What does the Vodacom coverage map say about your area?

If you are getting consistent speed with your high gain antenna then you'll probably just have to wait it out. It can't hurt to see if v3g can find out more about your area and if there are future plans.

BTW: Have you noticed that the B970 has an analogue port? You can very easily attach a cordless phone to add a twinsim to your voice contract and move your data bundle to your voice contract. That way when you are at home and switch the router on the twinsim will activate and you can get calls on your cell number :)

I am just outside the coverage area, by about 20m or so.

My voice contract belongs to my company, not allowed to bolt to it.
