Got an E620 card working on Linux - only at 384k speeds, though. Isn't there a section missing from the wvdial.conf (ver 1.1) that tells the card to go faster than 384k (3G)? Or does it switch automatically to HSDPA if the signal is good? There is reference to 'wvdial hsdpa' for the Option card; but no section called 'hsdpa' in the wvdial.conf.

I also noticed that.

Something else that is bothering me, is with my E620, the following line doesn't work:
AT+COPS=0,0,"Vodacom-SA",2

when wvdial runs it, I get the following output:
--> Sending: AT+COPS=0,0,"Vodacom-SA",2
AT+COPS=0,0,"Vodacom-SA",2
TOO MANY PARAMETERS

Is there a different set of init commands for the E620?

I had that problem too a long long time ago (In a galaxy far far away? :confused: :eek: ) ..

I don't know where the original post is but anyway Tazz recommended I try changing the
AT+COPS=0,0,"Vodacom-SA",2 bit in wvdial.conf to :
AT+COPS=1,2,"65510",2

Which since, has always worked for me. :)

EDIT: Sorry, the code "65510" is for MTN .. on Vodacom you should replace it with Vodacom's operator id which I think is "65501"

hmm ... I tried that now, but it still gives me the same error :(

However, if I change
AT+COPS=0,2,"Vodacom-SA",2
to
AT+COPS=0,2,"Vodacom-SA"

that seems to work, but then it goes on like this
--> Sending: AT+COPS=0,2,"Vodacom-SA"
AT+COPS=0,2,"Vodacom-SA"
OK
--> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
OK
--> Sending: AT+CGEQMIN=1,4,64,384,64,384
AT+CGEQMIN=1,4,64,384,64,384
OK
--> Sending: AT+CGEQREQ=1,4,64,384,64,384
AT+CGEQREQ=1,4,64,384,64,384
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*99***1#
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*99***1#
NO CARRIER
--> No Carrier! Trying again.

Any ideas on this one? (BTW, I've already disabled pin request)

Strange.. :confused:

IIRC the value at the end of the "AT+COPS" command is 0 for GPRS/EDGE and 2 for 3G/HSDPA - so it's kind of weird that it only seems to work without it..

Do you need this command btw? I assume you're trying to put the card into "3G only" mode? What if you just leave that command out? Does it connect then?

ok, I seem to have it working now ... looks like it was just the area that I was in, that was causing the no carrier error.

very strange

I've noticed it myself at times when travelling .. (especially in the western cape... I almost always have problems connecting there)
Some others have also reported this problem somewhere here..

Can't download wvdial.conf

Please can someone help, the link to download TAZZ_TUX's wvdial.conf file is to a site that appears to be under maintenance. Is there another place I can download it from or does anyone know when the site will be back up again
