can i stream movies from my pc through an original xbox360 to my tv? no special setup or chip needed?

because with the xbox1, it needs to be chipped.

ps2 cant do it.

ps3? is it possible, if so, how?

Yeah it can be done via WMP11, TVersity, Zune Software and some others.

I do it through TVersity and it streams everything: all my music, video and pictures no problems. No special chip is needed although you do need the December updates and relevant codecs (very small, few MBs) to be able to play DivX files.

EDIT. No clue on the PS3, sorry.

thanks for the quick reply.

how versatile is it? What I mean is, with the xbox1, its very easy and convenient because all i have to do is share my drives, connect my xbox1 to my network, then just browse and play divx.

will i need to run special software on my pc etc?

Well with WMP11 all you do is add the files you wanna share to your Media Library and then you'll have immediate access to them on your 360, you don't even have to keep WMP11 open on your PC.

With TVersity, you'll be running the MediaServer.exe process which is pretty small and just runs in the background. TVersity is pretty much the same as WMP11, choose the files/directories you want to share and add it, refresh and it'll be visible on the 360.

PS3 can also stream stuff, not sure how... but the xbox system just works from my experience...

360 is also a "media centre extender" which means if you're running XP MCE or Vista Home Premium/Ultimate you get a lot more functionality as well.

Another way I found useful if you don't have direct network access to your box (ie. if you're watching movies in bed) is to get yourself a decent sized flashdisk and just copy the movies to the stick. The latest dashboard update lets you watch them without any streaming mumbojumbo :D

Ok someone needs to come over to my place and do this for me - as all the techno mumbo jumbo does not go down well with me :D

Payment - drinks of your choice - and if I'm really in a good mood - a night out to Mavericks :D
