Question for Web Africa

A lot of users don't really need an uncapped account, but they would rather have a substantial cap and a fast line.

My question to WA is; since you believe uncapped is unsustainable and may affect the users by creating a slow internet experienece, will you be offering your 4Mb/16 gig special at the affordable price of R500 again soon or not?

Would appreciate a reply from WA.

Anything that encourages competition is "unsustainable"...according to WA

I'm glad to say my WA 30 gig account is still solid through all this uncapped business. Been gaming on the servers and seeing half the other playings flying up to 150ms ping.

Hi Frailwings, we do have some things planned (of course), however I unfortunately cannot divulge further info at this stage as we're still processing a lot of data before we make decisions. There is a lot up-in-the-air and we're waiting for the dust to settle before we commit to anything.

Thanks for the kind words bboy :) We do pride ourselves in delivering the highest quality GB's possible to our customers.

Thanks for the reply, for my ADSL needs (and a lot of other users/gamers) a competitive unshaped price per gig would be good.
Heavily throttled/shaped uncapped internet doesn't really "Free The Web" completely.I'm keeping fingers crossed for some quality offerings at competitive prices versus quantity.

You have been saying that for how long dude?

When the dust settles you go will be out of business. I cannot grasp how a huge company like web africa cannot offer uncapped.

They kinda shot themselves in the foot with that "not sustainable" quote. If they start offering it now, then, well, lol.

Interested to see what WA can come up with. For now 30gb on a 384k line is plenty.

I don't think they are interested in reselling IS accounts like everyone else is doing.

You know what i find rather amusing, WA wanting to offer high cap accounts which is great btw, lets say 200 people buy those accounts and download 24/7, and 200 people have uncapped and download 24/7. The 200 capped people get capped at 100gb for example, and the uncapped obviously dont. So high capped accounts are sustainable even with copious amounts of top-ups, yet uncapped accounts are not ? (lol). Gotta love the technical flaw in that argument.

Well it could be argued that it isn't sustainable in quality as more people will carry on downloading if there's no cap

Which could lead to heavy shaping and throttling on uncapped - ie poor quality

If a lot of people download 100 + gigs a month that could affect the user base, and as per the AUP they could heavily throttle people who go over 50 gigs.

of course we'll just have to wait and see what happens, let's hope that the cheap uncapped offerings drive down the prices of unshaped bandwidth.

right now we're sitting with cheap uncapped, heavily shaped/throttled and expensive unshaped R100+ per gig and R2500 for unshaped 4mb - excluding high line rental.

I don't see the "Web Free'd" yet.

I don't think they are interested in reselling IS accounts like everyone else is doing.

But they already do. They sell the IS Express Uncapped range of accounts, IS standard accounts and IS local accounts. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't add the new IS uncapped accounts to their product range.
