Question on axxess's uncapped account speed?

I was surfing axxess website this morning, hoping to find better price uncapped account.
There was a paragraph that catch my eyes : “You will still have the FULL line speed after 8pm on weekdays and the weekend. This means that if you have a 4Mb/s line, you will get 4Mb/s speed, even if you only have a 384Kbps account! ”

This sounds really fantastic, but when I read more within the webpage, I saw this “The speed will be limited to whatever is the lowest - your line speed or the account speed. Ex. 1024K account on 384K line = 384k download speed, 512K account on 4096K line = 512K download speed.”

I am really confused with the axxess uncapped account, so I am hoping any axxess uncapped user can give me a clue of which part is true and which part is not true.
Do you really get 4MB full line download speed while using 384kb uncapped account? thanks.

You purchase a line from telkom, that line is a 384 or a 512 or a 1024 / 4096 line.

THEN, you purchase this uncapped offering, which also comes in 384 or a 512 or a 4096 variants, and is priced accordingly.

This means, that you can buy a 384 uncapped solution, and use it on a 4096 line, and the 384 uncapped solution will operate at 384 b/s during work hours, and suddenly fly @ 4096 b/s after hours.

The package that I saw from axxess site is R999 for 384kbps account.
I think average is around this price for all ISP providers,
just it really catch my eye for axxess to claim that 384kbps account will perform 4096kbps line speed after hours.
That's like value added to the package.

But it just sounds to good to be true...
because we are not in UK or other well internet developed countries...
so that's why I like to find out more from axxess users' experience to confirm this.

Dont be fooled by that advertising. what others havent told you, if u read it carefully, there is a 10 day rolling threshold where if u go above a certain amount of gb during those 10 days, ur line will be throttled down to 192kbps. So lets for example say u have a 4mb adsl line and u buy the 384kbps uncapped package, during work hours u will have 384kbps, after work hours and weekends u will have 4mb/s but if u go over 5gb during ur 10 day rolling threshold, ur line will be throttled down to 192kbps. If u ask me, all these uncapped packages are a ripoff and a waste of time and money. Rather wait a couple of months untill Seacom launches, prices should go down and restrictions SHOULD disappear, altho in this country, we always expect the worst.

Thats true, you will get throttled to 192kbps if you exceed your threshold but thats only during office hours... you'll still get 4mb speed from 8-8 and on weekends

I would just like to add my own personal experience with uncapped, for what its worth for anyone:

I've found Mweb uncapped to be excellent value, torrents during the day (if I leave them running) will run anywhere between 50-200kb/s and at night you can reach anywhere between 100kb/s-400kb/s. If you then use a service such as Downstorm (forwarding torrents to http) you can easily maintain full download speed during the day. General browsing speed is great throughout the day and technical support is superb. Mweb has also not threatened any users downloading to much to date. And if the new lines become lit it will be even better.

The package that I saw from axxess site is R999 for 384kbps account.

That is Axxess Express Fibre 384. I've used it for a year - great product. Yes, I'm basically permanently thresholded during the day to 192, but I'm at work then. And if, for whatever reason, I need something faster during the day I use Afrihost prepaid.

From 8-8 I get close to max speed on my 4 meg line. Compared to the Axxess ADSL Uncapped 4096 - where I was lucky to get 20% of max speed - this product really rocks. For me it's worth paying twice what the "ADSL Uncapped" product costs. Last-mentioned really is a pathetic offering, speed wise.

The other alternative that seems to be worth looking at is Mweb's ADSL Uncapped packages. They don't seem to be plagued with the same issues as other ISP's.

Problem is I have a 4096 uncapped account with axxess and I get 35k download speeds at best during the day (ftp.is.co.za) and 200k at best in the evenings. I have checked with Telkom and my 4096 like tests ok. So is it good value?

Do you have a shaped account or an express account? The shaped accounts perform way worse than the express accounts.
I have a 384k express account at home between 8pm and 8am I average 4096kb/s (and all day weekends)
I have a 4096k shaped account at work and its been disappointing TBH. I don't use it for any kind of downloading and still during the day I am only getting in the region of 35k during the day. The few times I tested it at night it was about 200k.

I am thinking about changing my account at work to Mweb because in that category it seems to be better (and the 200 wifi minutes included seems like a great deal..)

But there is no competing with the axxess 384k express account for R999. I wouldn't change that for the world right now.
