Hi all, I am thinking of getting someone to do some renovations on my bathroom and kitchens. Any idea of how much it usually costs? I am thinking of going with the guy to buy the stuff, I will pay for all the materials before he starts, so that I will only need to pay for the actual demolitions and installations. I stay at a flat, so the kitchen and bathroom are both fairly small, all i want them to do is to replace the kitchen cupboards in the kitchen, take out the existing bathtub for a shower, and then do the tilings in the bathroom. Any tips / advice will be highly appreciated!

how long is a piece of string?

Kitchen can cost R 60 000, R100 000, R250 000 and more...

If he says it will take 2 weeks...expect NOTHING less than 4 weeks. Expect to hate his guts in the end.

+1

Also if replacing a bath with a shower means you will have no bath in the flat rather look at a bath/shower combo. The fairer sex cannot live without a bath :)

Work from a budget going backwards. If you're prepared to spend a maximum of R80 000 then budget for R50 000.It will end up costing you R100 000.
Sad but true.

Here's a thought - how about you buy a new flat/house?
Seriously, it costs way more to build than to buy at the moment so maybe it's time for an upgrade?
What you want to spend in upgrades could be a decent deposit for a new pad instead.
