question on pastel partner07 9.3.1

For the guru's that might be able to help

I've got a customer that is running 5 stations without ANY issues.

1 customer is connecting via ADSL from home into the pastel server...she can list and access all companies (2) without issues...however...if she is on ADSL - for the other users in the office - the second company just isn't listed.

the moment she quits from pastel at home - they again can see it being listed and access it.

i've tried to activate /add the company - only to receive some error.

if the home user comes into work - NO issues - everyone can go in and out..of both companies

any ideas?

I had something similar (but over a wireless network). Pastel told me to open up the following ports in the firewall of both PCs:
TCP 1583
TCP 3351

Since its ADSL you might need to forward those ports too. Not sure. But once I had opened them on both all my problems disappeared

Interesting. Those ports must be being used by Pervasive (spit, spit). What server OS do they run. How about running a TS setup or even a VM for the remote pastel?

I guess that those ports must be Pervasive as well. I think Pastel products themselves run over the standard Windows SMB protocol, which isn't the ports mentioned.

I'm not sure how Pastel would handle being run in a Terminal Server environment, but it's maybe worth looking into, for security reasons as well. Opening ports on the firewall is never really a great idea unless it's truly needed.

Only other thing I can think of is to phone Pastel, and give them the error code or message, and see what they say.

I'm now wondering if this isn't more about Pervasive than anything else. You may need to set up some sort of Pervesive gateway or something, I remember seeing something about that in the little manual in the Partner cd case.

well - like i said - the user at home doesn't have any issues whatsoever.

its only when she is using the system - that the guys on the LAN start getting problems with the 2nd company not showing up.

when she quits the app - they can see and work on it again..

almost like an exclusive lock ...

I don't know if this still applies as it's an old thread...

Pervasive transfer control of the set of account to the copy of pervasive on the workstation that opened it... thus if a copy of pervasive over ADSL opens it it gains control.

since the other users cannot access that connection they are unable to open the set of accounts.
