Hi
So last night I got SMS that my data had expired. Which was surprising because I hadn't used much and was expecting it to "rollover" under the new laws.

So this morning I went surfabout and found this statement from Vodacom, after they had to back down from charging a rollover fee:

“From 1 March, remaining data on bundle purchases by all customers will be rolled over at no additional charge once a customer purchases the same bundle as the original one,” Vodacom said in Wednesday’s statement.

Surely forcing you to buy another data package as a requirement for getting your unused data is illegal, or at least against the spirit of the new laws?

Or am I misinterpreting things?

Thanks, Ian

I would agree that it is against the spirit of the law, but Vodacom at the least seems to think that it is within its rights to do so.

All ICASA regulations operate differently with each network. This is a serious problem with the regulations. It needs to be fixed but then again those at ICASA dont know what to do.

Sigh. So I go buy another 100MB for 30 days. Now there are new options, and at the end, even though I took 100MB for 30 days, I still only get 100MB, even though it's the same deal I've been buying for years, with nothing rolled over.

I guess somewhere in the depths of Vodocam's IT systems this somehow qualifies as "not the same package" and thus data was not rolled over.

I repeat: Dear Vodacom: Don't be Evil.

Same here. I usually buy a 5gb 30 day. My 30 days expired yesterday. When buying a new 5gb one this morning, nothing rolled over (had about 1 gig left). What is the fine print regarding this? I buy from my banking app. Is this the issue? Do you need to buy from vodacom?

Could very well be that they want you to buy more before midnight so it can carry over.

Nasty and underhanded, but a measure of tit for tat as VC clients were moaning about being charged. However I doubt it’s against any laws. The laws did not specify if clients can be billed or if the service must be free.
So then VC says you must spend more money in anyway to keep what you paid for before.

According to the call center you need to buy a new data bundle (of same size) at least 7 days PRIOR to the existing one expiring....

That's just evil. Who buys data before you need it?
