On Sunday the Runflat indicator lights up on my 320d so i stop at the station. Indeed the pressure was low in the left rear tyre and i did manage to spot a nail inside the grove.

The guys pumped it up and on Mond i had the nail removed and the hole patched up at the local Supa Quick. I also re-initialised the Runflat system as per instructions in the manual.

Yesterday afternoon the Runflat indicator starts up again, so either a new hole or the same one not done properly. I stop at the Speedy and have it checked - no probs with any of the tyres.

But the guys there tell me its a common issue with BMW, the Runflat system detects some sort of a patch and alerts.

Is that true ? I find that hard to believe, and don't want to shut off the system but also don't want the constant alert.

I've had no problems with a patch. My (limited) understanding is that the system is very basic in that it doesn't measure the actual air pressure, rather the rotation speed of the wheel, inferring the air pressure. I would be surprised if the patch interferes with the measurement.

Yes, me too, especially seeing that it fills the grove rather than an overlapping growth.

I've patched a runflat and driven thousands of kms without any problems. According to BMW, "the procedure for repairing runflats is exactly the same as for repairing standard tyres". I'd say rotate the tire. If the problem persists, take it to BMW for a check to make sure there's nothing wrong with the sensors too.

The only flaw I've experienced in the system is the event that all 4 tyres go flat at the same rate over time, then the Runflat will not give a warning.

LOL other dude I met when I started here has (e92)320i (who doesn't?) and he was drunk and then drove 150k's with the runflat light on...he thought it was a defalted tyre...and he drove faster and faster - so that's his braai story, how fast he drove on flat(supposedly) tyres in the BMW...people with him will diagree, as they say the light just came on and tyres were NOT flat...but this guy being stupid tells everyone the car is so good it can ride on flat tyres...ag ja wat!

:D

I was doing around 160km/h toward Bloemfontein when my TPM light came on. I slowed down, drove at 80km/h until next stop and found all tires to be around 1.0 bar. Filled them up and after 60kms light came on again. Stopped at next filling station in Bloem and found one of the tires to be 1.0 bar. Phoned BMW and they asked me to wait 5hrs for help. Told them to stuff off!

I put cruise control at 100km/h from Bloem to Kroonstad until I eventually found a garage that sells the quick tire fix thing at R40. After that, drove normally until joburg.
