Question on Studying through UNISA

I want to study some microbiology or biotechnology course through UNISA, but the practical bit concerns me.

Is there no way that one can do the practical subjects at a University down here instead of spending two weeks in Pretoria???

Two weeks is a lot of time when you take into account that I only get 17 days annual leave. And since I'm working in IT and this is not an IT related discipline my work will definitely not give me study leave.

Anybody gone through this?

UWC does it but from what iv heard about medical bio science is that its a dead end ...and useless

its more of a bridging course for science courses
