Hi all,

I apologise if this has been discussed at length before. I've read the posts regarding line stats so have a basic understand of SNR and attenuation.

This led me to request a line report from MWEB, the results of which are below.

I'm hoping that someone can explain:
  • Difference between ATUC vs ATUR
  • What the ATUR Current Rate is
  • Why ATUC SNR would be different to ATUR SNR

Thanks so much.

ATUC Current Rate4096kbpsThis is my speed which I understand
ATUC SNR26dbConsidered very good
ATUC Attenuation0.5dbExcellent
ATUC Max RateNot supplied
ATUC Min RateNot supplied
ATUR Current Rate512kbpsDon't know what this is or whether its good or bad
ATUR SNR14dbNot sure what the difference between this and ATUC SNR is?

ATUC is downstream and ATUR is upstream.

Downstream current rate 4096
Upstream current rate 512

Same for SNR

Thanks very much. I guess the poor SNR for the downstream is normal considering how slow my upload speed is?

14dB is still an excellent SNR!

I suppose you're still on G.DMT modulation, which could also explain why the upstream SNR isn't even higher.

Edit:
Could you post your upstream attenuation value?

It could also be that your POTS filter is poor quality/faulty, which may lower the upstream SNR.

Hi There,
I would be delighted with thosse figures if I was you. We see plently of people with figures in multiples worse than that.

Enjoy it

Actually you have an SNR of 26db with a Att of 0.5db on downstream, those are damn good figures! The 14db SNR is your upstream.
You Attentuation is the lowest I've ever seen! My Att of 6.5db was the lowest I'd seen before yours.

You should be really stoked with those stats.

Something doesn't gel there, normally the upstream attenuation is far better than the downstream attenuation.

Where do you see the upstream attenuation mentioned in those figures?

Your attenuation figure doesn't look right. could you recheck and post the ATUR Current ATN

LOL I was gonna ask the same thing. Coz I only see downstream attentuation in those figures.
Unless the OP typed the upstream att in invisible text :p

I don't want to steal your thread Tniland, but can anyone tell me if my stats are good? From what I read, anything over 60dB for attenuation is considered bad. Mine is displaying as 110dB.

I don't have a filter on my line. Would adding a filter help? It also seems my exchange is capable of 20mb VDSL.

Those are pretty good :)

Thanks froot, but what makes you say that?

I had slightly worse stats for 1Mb back when, and get a decent 10Mb. Your line attenuation is amazing, so dependent on the distance to the exchange, you could maybe get VDSL.

Hi all,

Sorry about the delayed response. I got those figures from MWEB as I was querying my connection quality as our ADSL speeds are so intermittent (favouring terribly slow as opposed to terribly fast).

Here's a screenshot of the stats as sent by MWEB:
