I'm interested in buying a PS4, and have a quick question regarding 5.1 surround sound. I've noticed that the new PS4 Slim no longer has an optical out port, and I want to make sure that I'm future-proofed in being able to get 5.1 surround sound if I get a PS4 Slim over the original PS4.
At home, I have a Samsung HDTV, which does have an optical out port. If were to connect my PS4 Slim to the TV via the HDMI cable, and then connect the TV to the sound system via the optical out - would I be able to get 5.1 surround sound through the speakers? Or does the optical out have to go separately from the PS4 into the sound system? I know that HDMI cables carry sound and video, but I've never used optical out before - is there something I need to check about my TV maybe?
