I had a look at firmware available for this TV specifically for the LA46C750R2R model which is the one sold in SA.

The firmware version the TV ships with is version 1011. I found a newer version 1013 on Samsung Global download site but if you compare this to the firmware available for the Australian model this is really out dated.

The Australian version is on version 3005 already and they added some nice features and fixes I would like to have. Some of these include optimization of 3D reducing cross talk, improved MKV support, Supporting MKV with DTS etc.

Anyone tried using the Australian or UK firmware on this model?

I would be very wary of doing that.

There are different modules in the TV itself that require different firmwares. I for instance have a L46C550 and there are 2 different firmwares for the different chipsets inside the TV itself.

So what is to be done? I also have the la46c750 and would like to have it on the latest firmware available.

Why wouldn't south Africa just modify the australian one to work with our model. I am going to phone me. And will let u know.

I think we should get Samsung SA involved, why should we sit with an inferior model compared to other countries because they are to lazy do update our firmware. This TV is not even on their website.

I've downloaded the Australian version, file structure and file sizes looks exactly the same except for the apps file which is significantly larger. So you obviously get more apps.

I couldn't care less if my tuner stopped working as I don't use it, as far as I can see that would be the only differentiating factor between the different models as other countries use different tuners to fit in with their broadcasting standards.

I’ll check if I can’t find an youtube video showing the menu for the Australian model and compare it to ours.

So I pulled the specs from the LA46C750R2R model (South Africa) and the LA46C750R2F model (Australia).

LA46C750R2R:

System
DTV Reception (DVB-T/T2/C/S2) No
DTV Tuner Built-in No
MHP/ MHEG (version) No

LA46C750R2F

System
DTV Reception (DVB-T/T2/C/S2) DVB-T
DTV Tuner Built-in Yes
MHP/ MHEG (version) No

The only difference is with the tuner.

Check out these 2 links, everything is the same even down to the remote model number except for the tuners.

SA model:

Aus model:

Darn, I thought this had digital tuner. So now I need to buy a STB when they start digi broadcasts :(

Phone samsung and they said it could damage the tv as the firmwares are region specific. When I asked him why is south Africa so far behind with regards to updates of firmwares he said he doesn't have that information and that I must contact the service department in my area

So I phone tm electronics and the tv ladies is busy with a customer and will phone back.

Will keep u updated.

What is extended PVR?
If this means we can copy movies without using DSTV's PVR it adds TONS of value!!!

Yes, the SA model can as well, it's just disabled by firmware. It even says it can in the manual. I'll have a look at the service menu tonight to check if it can be enabled there.

I just think its sad that they sell this TV in South Africa and have no info for it on their website. All the research I've done before purchasing this TV was based on the Aus model as it was the only Samsung site giving me details for the LA46C750. All the reviews I read was based on this model. Now after purchasing the tv it lacks some of the funtionality. Total bs if you ask me.

Look at this thread, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/archive/index.php/t-186221.html. hjno72 accidently loaded the UK firmware on his 7 series LED and he could roll back. I'm seriously thinking of trying this.

I don't understand why they would disable a feature like that? That's ridiculous.

Well I wot push u to upgrade the firmware and tell us what happens but I won't stop u either cause it could open / unlock some sweet features that the other countries have been experiencing.

Thought you would test for us randomwalsh:-). R12000 is a lot money to brick.

Haha pocket change :) haha no I am awaiting for your adventurous spirit to overcome your hesitations and do it for the forum :)

That sucks. I am still await the phone back from the local support place and I have posted our concern on the samsung website.

Some of the apps requires you to have an ID, like Facebook and twitter apps

I only tested the internet on the tv when I first got it. Will check with regards to the Id thing.

So how do u guys have your tv set up? Ie additional sound connected? Xbox? Pc?

Also I just read on www.hdcabling.co.za about v1.4 hdmi cables and how they can share data connections as well between connected devices? Heard anything about that?

Busy downloading some 3d content to play and test out the tv. Gonna be rocking :)
