Questions about Municipal Valuations

Hi,

Please help, I have a few questions about municipal valuations. Our latest valuations are open for public inspection and my property has not had the change of ownership nor the sub-division registered. What should I do?

2. There is this post on a FB group about the evaluations in Afrikaans and my Afrikaans isn't good enough to fully understand it. Can some one please tell me what it is about, and is it anything I need to concern myself with?

Die munisipaliteit gebruik die eiendom se waardasie en dan betaal die eienaar 'n 'persentasie' per rand op die waardasie aan belasting.
Ek het nou met 'n besigheids eienaar gesels. Die besigheid se munisipale waardasie was R1,4 miljoen en nou het hulle dit na R2,1 miljoen verhoog. Dit beteken 'n verhoging van 50% aan erfbelasting!
Dan moet ons ook nog wag om te hoor met hoeveel gaan die 'per rand gedeelte' wees wat hulle gaan verhoog. As dit ook verhoog beteken dit die eienaar gaan ver meer as 'n 50% belasting verhoging kry!

They will have a appeals period. You can lodge a appeal if you feel that your property has been valued higher than similar properties.

If you just bought the property then the most recent value will be the price it sold for and that will be what you get taxed on.

If its not over-valued then bite your tongue and leave it. If you appeal and they revalue it, it COULD go up.
