So my little brother got a PSP 3000 for his birthday, and I want to get him some games and stuff for it.

First of all, For those emulators (GBA, NES, SNES ect.) does the PSP need to be hacked to use those?
2nd if it does, is it possible to hack a PSP3000 running Firmware 6.60 to run homebrew apps?
and 3rd, are there free games I can download (preferably on PC and then copied to the PSP)

Thanks guys.

INb4 Piracy, this post is just about emulators and legally free games.

FW 6.60 already! When I started neglecting my PSP it was on 3.something. But yeah you need CFW for emulators.

/didn't really contribute.

I doubt you can permanently patch the firmware,as I understand it only the 1000 and 2000 modles with the non t88v3 board can be hacked to boot up into permanent custom roms, that said I believe their are roms you paste onto the system that stay on and allow the running of homebrew as long as the PSP os on.

This should illustrate what I mean

This information will GENERALLY apply to the U.S. model PSP-2001 only. The word "hackable" refers to a Slim that has a ta-088v2 motherboard or lower and therefore can have full custom firmware installed by using a Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick. The word "unhackable" refers to a Slim that has a ta-088v3 or higher motherboard and can only have "lite" custom firmwares installed. These firmwares are functionally equivalent to a full custom firmware with the exception that they run in the PSP's RAM and not the motherboard. This means that when you do a full shutdown of the PSP, the firmware is "lost" and you will have to run the exploit again in order to be on custom firmware. Also, if you're running a "lite" custom firmware on an "unhackable" motherboard and you attempt to flash a full custom firmware to it, it WILL brick your PSP and is currently unrecoverable. You can run a "lite" custom firmware on a hackable Slim just fine, but why would you bother when you can install full custom firmware? Currently (9/8/2001) you can hack your "unhackable" no matter what firmware you're on simply by updating to 6.60.

You can use this exploit on any psp but you can't flash CFW to the motherboard on any of the newer modles 2000+

I am not sure if their is temp flash for 6.60 but here is something similiar for 6.39

Basically you want a chickenHEN exploit for firmware 6.60 you will have to google it a bit.
