Hey all,
I have an uncapped 10Mb ADSL line with Telkom as ISP. I get a fairly consistent ping of around 40ms when using the Speedtest app on my phone.
Just down the road, about 1 km as the crow flies, on another ADSL, I get a fairly consistent 20ms ping on a 10MB capped 40GB ADSL, also with Telkom as ISP. I notice the download speed on this line is always a little faster too, at around 9.6 mbs vs. 8.6 mbs on the uncapped line. Does a capped line get some preference?
Is there a way to improve my ping? I know it also relates to distance to the exchange but I am not sure where my exchange even is, or if both lines are on the same exchange. Does taking a capped account give you better ping?
Would upgrading to a 20MB line improve (reduce) ping? And is 40ms ping considered OK, or is it on the high side?
Thanks!
