Wanting to upgrade to 4mbps but have a few questions. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm currently on a 384kbps line. I really want to upgrade and webafrica's 10gb smart packages (http://www.webafrica.co.za/home/adsl/complete/) look very attractive. I've exchanged emails with webafrica: They told me that the smart packages run at the maximum speed at which your line can run... This means I have to upgrade my 384line to 4mbps if I want 4mbps?? If so what will this cost, or is it free?? They mention that line rentals are included in the monthly cost which I'm guessing does not include the line-speed upgrade(if there were to be any).

Thanks in advance

I wish it was free :D 4Mbps line rental is R413 as opposed to the R138 (I think) for 384Kbps line rental.

I think he may have meant a cost to upgrade, e.g. like installation cost? Afaik there is no cost in upgrading the speed, just obviously the higher line rental per month. But if web africa quotes you with line rental included for 4mbps, then thats all you pay. BUT they normally do not include the analog telephone line rental. Which is still mandatory. I think its about R120 now.

Its R152 for 384
R300 odd for 512
R413 for 4meg line

- however as 512 kbps line speed has fallen away, you will automatically receive a line speed of 1 Mbps (1024 kbps)

- if your exchange supports it, you can request to have your line speed upgraded to 10 Mbps (10 240 kbps) for free

See Telkom's website: http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/dsl/dslaccesonly.html

Thanks!
So from what I can gather I will be paying the 599p/m for 10mbps and 10gb data. The line will be upgraded for free from 384kbps to 10mbps (if the line is capable) but I will also have to pay a mandatory R120p/m which every1 has to pay?

Yes, for R599 you get the 4-10Mbps connection and 10GB of data from Web Africa. If you're a new customer, then you'll probably only pay like R399 for the first 3 months.

And yes, you'll also have to pay the mandatory R133.30pm for the telephone line rental @ Telkom.

Yeah, made the decision last year. It was truly the best decision to make, considering that the monthly rental only went up by about R300. Now my entire family can surf the net and download stuff/play games with no probs (well, almost no probs). Best of all, no buffering time with youtube!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
