Cape Town - Two suspects were arrested on Thursday when quick-acting SA Police Service officers located them after they fled a botched ATM bombing in Mitchells Plain.
“It is alleged that early on Thursday morning about eight suspects stormed into a local shopping complex,” said Captain Lloyd Ramovha on Thursday.
"They then headed for the ATM and before they could place what appeared to be explosives, the local security intervened and shots were fired in their direction."The suspects placed explosives on the ATM which detonated, but the safe wasn’t breached.
They fled the scene empty-handed using an unknown getaway vehicle.
“Vigilant local police doing routine patrols stopped and searched two suspects along Samantha Street in Lentegeur, and found detonator cords in their possession."
The two will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once charged under the Explosives Act.
