I was stationary at a red robot today when a guy rearended me. Cars a bit dinged but it wasn't too bad.

The boot on my i20 is damaged but closed solidly (I cant get it open) but the boot open light on the dash stays on. Obviously something broke somewhere on the latch.

Heres the issue. Because my car thinks the boots open I cant lock my car. Not with the remote or manual turn key. The doors lock and pop back open.

The cars perfectly driveable and I'm going to have to keep it until it goes to the shop so I'd like to lock it if possible.

Any ideas?

I would try fiddle with the latch from the inside of the car to get it open.. it "should" have a safety catch to help open it from the inside..

Once it is open, you will need to find what is used to detect the boot open or not..

On my car it's a magnetic sensor on either side of the boot.. not sure what is used on the i20.. once you have the answer to that, you can look at what to do to fix it..

Other idea is to try and find the correct wires on the harness that passes the info to the computer and cross them, but that's just plan bonkers if you don't know what you are doing..

Place aluminium foil strip between latch and lock so that contact is made?

*edit*

Oh nevermind, you can't get it open :D
