Hey guys,

I just got an Athlon II 245 installed.

But in Windows it says the right clock speed, but also "unknown model CPU"

Do I need to install drivers for it or what? Why doesn't it know what it is :)

which Windows? more info please.

You probably need to install the chipset drivers.

There are also settings in the bios to hide certain features of the CPU. Check there too.

What mobo?

Is there anything with a yellow exclamation next to it in Device Manager?

Can try clearing your CMOS by removing the mobo battery for 5 mins.

Next probable step is a BIOS update.

Strange i have the same cpu and it is picked up fine in windows 7. Yea clear the bios or do a bios update possibly.

i think it may be becos the chip was released after the current version of my bios.

its windows xp.

im a bit hesitant to do a bios update as i dont want to screw nething up!

is this an issue that needs to be fixed? will it affect performance in any way?

Sounds like you just need a BIOS update. Quite often the BIOS updates just add support for new CPUs.

BIOS update is fairly safe and quick.

i just know that if something goes wrong i could end up with a dead board :(

this bios update thing makes me rly nervous lol

Your worst case scenario is a power outage. You have paid the bills, right?

haha yeah i have a prepaid power thing, still got units :D

u think i should go for it?

it has a windows application thing used to flash

r there any precautions i can take b4 doing it?

I've used the Windows-based apps without issue. Been quite a while since I used a DOS one. No hassles.

I say go for it and see if it solves the issue.

tnx, here i go! :D

omg.

that was not ok hey. my poor heart.

So i flashed it, then i restart.

Then it says CMOS checksum..... BAD!
CMOS date/time not set!

...and doesn't boot.

So I enter BIOS, and dont rly know wat to do, and jsut randomly turn off AMD C&Q.

Then I press save, and it booted into windows ! :D :D

omg my heart just skipped a beat srsly. But it recognises my CPU now :D

NOW IM JUST SCARED TO EVER RESTART AGAIN LOL

edit: tnx again to every1 who helped out :)

edit again: on a serious note, what does that CMOS stuff mean? do i need to be worried about booting again?

I forgot to mention... after the BIOS flash, go into the BIOS and just select the option to set the defaults. Make your changes as normal and then save and exit.

When you selected C&Q and exited, the others settings get saved. So it was just complaining that it had a blank store.

But see... not so difficult, eh :D

:D

you could of told me lol!

i rly had a heart attack hey :D

tnx rift, u gave me the courage to do it lol :D

ahhh... i can breathe easy again.

so in turning off c&q and changing nothing else, i set the defaults neway? or r there other settings i need to change?
