With the new consumer act place, would you prefer buying your car privately or through a dealership?

<I'll ask a mod to make us a poll>

Reason I'm asking is let's say you're in the market for a second hand vehicle, would you buy it from someone who would probably sell you the car and hope
nothing goes wrong (If it does will he have the funds to pay for the things going wrong) - No more foot stoots

Or would you rather buy from a dealer who has the back-up and financial needs to pay should something go wrong with the car?

I'm just curious :)

A dealer - regardless of CPA ;)

Also not one of those 3rd party side job dealers

This is my stance also. I'm just curious as to what others think.
Let me make this example for you:

If you can buy a 2009 Navara from a private person for R 10 000 less that you can from a dealer. Would this sway you to go private vs dealership?

I'd be inclined to go to a dealer for one over-riding reason: franchised dealers' own approved used cars have to meet a certain standard. The cars' service histories are checked, they're normally guaranteed to be free of any past major accident damage, their historical ownership record is verified etc. etc.

It'd cause a dealer an immense amount of pain and money to sell a dud - a lot of effort is expended to ensure that doesn't happen.
