EDIT: Forgot to add the fact it's a Rain CPE X Outdoor Router

Ok so I don't know how in-demand CPEs are for being stolen or if they are any worth to people buying them from thieves.
But what I do know is that it's current position gives the best speed and there is literally no other position that comes close to this one.

When I saw the price of this thing it made me want to barricade it INSIDE my house.

Anyway, So the actual question is: What are my chances of my CPE being stolen?
  • It's mounted on the high part of a first floor balcony's railing.
  • It's covered with a white shirt
  • There is a huge tree and a tall car cover-canopy right in front of it.
  • The only way it's shape is visible is from the other side of the street and it just looks like a bulky cloth with a cable coming out of it.
  • There are chairs that cover the most easily-visible points of view especially the ones up close like in the street or close to the boundary fence.

CPE aka ONT goes inside your house, the only thing thats outside is the box that has your strand of fibre that comes from the street.

I'm an idiot. XD I forgot to add it's a Rain Router
EDIT: It's added

Why dont you just mount it on the roof directly above where its sitting now?

That's temporary where it's now until I can find a ladder to get to the much higher wall on the other side, and those edges around the balcony's canopy has gutters. Drilling now into the frame is a no-go. That's why it's here till I find a ladder

same thing applies Im sure, Rain can surely blacklist stolen routers like a cellphone.
its got a IMEI right? so problem solved.
The thing that haunts me is the fact that these thieves are so blank they probably won't even know what it is and sell it for R20 at a scruffy Cell Shop

yes probably, but then again, sure you could take out insurance for it?
add it to your policy surely?

then blacklist the stolen router with RAIN, sure @rain_mobile can advise if they are able to blacklist/deactivate stolen equipment.
or advise you where to go to do that.

Hi @ILoveGames sorry we don't blacklist devices, I would rather be safe than sorry. I say keep it indoors until you actually mount it on the roof and please do add your rain ODU to your insurance, just in case because there is an extra cost if you damage or lose the device.
