I'm buying 5 new tyres for my bakkie.

However I don't want them fitted this weekend as I'm going hunting and don't want to drive farm roads with the new tyres. That being said, what would be the best way to prevent punctures on the older tyres so I can still drive back this Sunday? Should I run them at 1bar (softer as opposed to hard while driving in the veld?) Or is harder better? It's not 4x4 driving just want to try keep the tyres in tact till I get home. I have a puncture kit but obviously no way to inflate the tyre quick enough while in the veld to have it repaired.

Any advice, suggestions?

I would deflate them to anywhere from 1-1.5 bar depending.

I drive my Coopers on the farm and gravel road at 1.5 for comfort mainly but i have found road pressures = more punctures offroad

Pretty much what I thought.

Thanks

Just don't go too low or you'll damage the side walls... especially if you graze a rock or something.

what tyres you have on?
HT's?
AT's?
ATX's?

the height ratio also plays a part. If you have "taller" tyres, you don't want to run them too low or the sidewalls "stick out" too much.
So 1.5 bars is the safest.

P.S. if you get a sukkeldorring in the tread, just leave it in. It should make it back home.
