i need 1 more power cable on my system, i have all my hdds connected but now i dont have anymore to connect my dvd writer :p

can i buy a "spliter" perhaps ? something to split the power connector to two ? so i can take one of the hdd's power connector and split it so that it works on the hdd as well as on my dvd writer ?

if these things exist what are they called ?

thanks guys

If you are running out of cables, you should perhaps also give a thought as to whether the PSU is powerful enough to power than many devices.

Short answer: Yes, can usually pick these up for R 10 - R25 at most hardware shops.

Long answer: Gets a bit tricker -- your power supply should be strong enough, and be careful of carrying to many devices on the same channel.

I would just get a splitter and split the connector going to the least used hard drive with your dvd.

thanks guys :) i would have googled but i wouldn't of known what to put in the search criteria :D

i have a 450w psu with 6 hdd and 1 dvd writer ... i would have made it except i used one of the power cables to run an extra fan i put in.

The splitter should work fine, but your 450w PSU may take some strain...

Maybe consider a larger PSU or a dual-PSU setup (I've been using a dual-PSU for 7 years now, no issues - mobo, graphics, DVD-rom and boot drive on main PSU, and all other drives, fans, etc. on the other) - you can either make your own cable, or get the Lian-Li PSU connector from Sybaritic or from Prophecy (not listed on their site though)
