Hi all -- I have been playing WOW for a bit, have been thinking about broadening my horizons and trying GW..

I saw GW: Factions in the shop yesterday.. since I read here that it's not an expansion, but a sequel, are you limited to game content contained in Factions? Is it a seperate game entirely? If you have both is your play area and content increased? Or does Factions contain everything that the original contained?

Thanks

Welcome Deviant. :)
Factions is a seperate game completely from the first Guild Wars (called Prophecies) with all the 6 original characters from the 1st chapter (Prophecies) plus another 2 characters taking place on a continent, called Cantha.
The 1st chapter, Prophecies, is on a continent called Tyria, which you can only play with the original 6 characters.
If you have both the 1st (Prophecies) and 2nd (Factions) chapters and you link these 2 together, then you can play both continents, with any of the 8 characters.
You do not need the one to the play the other.
Hope this explains it for you. :)
I know you will enjoy the game. :D

Hey Deviant. If you buy factions, you will have access to all content in factions.
however you will not have access to the old game content. some skills were removed from factions which are available in the original.

hope this clears up some ;)

the law of the universe states:

A person may buy 1 GW chapter at first - but will inevitalby buy both within a month of play

and you can take that to the bank!! :D

Bought factions at CNA yesterday. Bought Prophecy code online today (busy downloading content now).

Thanks all ... downloaded the client yesterday, was hoping there was a trial play option, but alas there isn't. I will probably buy the game at the end of the month...

uhmm... the only 'trial' plays there were, were the 2 preview events they had... the one was a free for all weekend and the other you had to know somebody in order to get an invite... pity you missed these, I would've sent you an invite... ;)
regardless, I think you will it, the game is well worth it. :D

Within 3 days of constant playing you should be lvl 20 and ready for the lovely world of PVP.

3 days consisting of 3 hours total sleep and a red bull every hour on the hour........then yes i'll agree with R4tt3xx :)

well.....for prophecies anyway....

3 days - lvl 20 in factions could be possible.....but thats if you've played GW before imo

ye, Prophecies lvl'ing is longer than Factions.
Factions is very quik, can do it in a day. 15 hrs of game time or so and then you don't even have to rush and you can do all the mapping and you will be lvl20.
