A guy at work is selling the following for R1700, 2nd hand obviously.

TARGA STREET+ 2D 12" SUB WITH CUSTOM PORTED BOX 1300W RMS
TARGA BABY BRAT 4000W 1 OHM MONO BLOCK AMP

Worth it or not? I need to get some sound for my car.

Depends on you, Targa is pretty much budget kit. Even low end Pioneer subs sound better. But why not give it a listen and decide if that's what you want?

It's not bad for the power stats that you mention, but i would try bring it down a little. atleast R1500.

Also bear in mind that you gonna need some decent splits (Tweeters and Mids) to play with that...

Ok well considering i have no clue what you are on about i will give it a miss :p.
I am still rocking out with my stock Getz speakers :o. Will seek expert advice on what i should do.

ok so basically the getz speakers and stock radio im guessing is not going to give you the sound you want for that price

if you want mild clarity bass and you want so spend around that amount of money i suggest you try the speed and sound forums and autostyle forums

cos with the sound of a 1300w dvc sub and 4000w mono amp you need a decent split system or your car would be a moving rattle

Basically what he is offering you is pure bass. The AMP mentioned is made to only have a SUB connected to it... So ALL you will hear is bass...

Tweeters (small 1,5cm diameter, purely for treble) and Mids (5-6inch Door speakers, mid range and treble) are needed so that you actually hear voices, words, effects etc... If you get a sub in your car you NEED to get mids and tweeters to balance your treble and bass out. The mids and tweeters need to be on an AMP as well, otherwise all you will hear is bass...

If you want to bounce down the road then buy that, but I'm not sure if it's a very good price.

If you want to listen to music with decent clarity bass then you need to buy a musical sub. I'm no expert but I would recommend a more musical sub; you can go even smaller than that. I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate in my car and it's absolutely wonderful.

with clarity comes price ...so rockford, hertz and stuff is expensive but yeah then you getting clarity unless you want the deep bass and people must hear you coming

but yes you need mids so that you can listen to the words

Considering i don't listen to much doef doef music and i stick with more Rock and metal music i am guessing those speakers are a terrible choice for me :D.

Next question quick, would i benefit from a better head unit first or better speakers first? Running a stock Hyundai Double Din MP3/CD player. (Which skips when going over a bump :p).

Oh yes definitely.

I would recommend installing some good splits up front and a nice musical sub. You can even run the sub and splits off the same amp, that's what I'm doing.

Well a better head unit is not really gonna get you better sound, so I would recommend an amp and speakers first.

Worth while doing anything to the speakers in the back seat doors?

Yes, but that would be basically for having a more 'fuller' sound in the car - depending on your budget you can, but just using one amp you might have a problem trying to run those as well. Mine are run off the Head Unit, while my splits and sub are run off the amp. It's not essential.

i would also think thats the best route

Lol, STAY AWAAAAAY from that sub and amp :P Thats more for House, Trance, Tech, Hip Hop etc...

As Pooky said, get decent splits and musical sub. I'd reccomend 4ch 4ohm Amp and you will be sorted! Then you run splits and sub all off 1amp, this will save you quite abit of dollar.... I've got JBL GT500 Splits in my car and the clarity on them is out of this world!

Could always put 6x9's in the back if you dont wanna start cutting holes for rear door speakers. Will give you a more surround feel, but honestly you DONT need it... Get splits, 10" Sub and 4ch Amp to start... With installation it'll set you back about R2500-R3000 (average brands)

If you don't mind waiting you can even take a look on the speedandsound forums for some secondhand good quality stuff.
