Ok, I know this has been discussed and public knowledge for many months, but I'm behind.

The latest chip is a 65nm which runs cooler and makes the Xbox more silent, right? How do I know if I have this? Is there a serial number? Link?

I blush when I placed my brothers PS3 next to my Xbox and heard the noise ...

The HDMI consoles (Arcade, Mongoose and newer Elites/Pros) have new heatsinks and DVD drives and run quieter than the older models.

I had the same question but nobody could answer me. I therfore devised my own test. To test this wait until a police helicopter flies around outside your house. If you live in jo'burg you shouldnt have to wait too long. When you start to hear the helicopter, switch the Xbox on. If you can hear the helicopter over the Xbox, then you have the quieter one. BUT seriosuly, the sound that comes off the Xbox is pretty rediculous. I have used chainsaws that make less noise!! They might as well get rid of the power brick and ship the Xbox with little petrol engines as the power supply. That way they reduce the noise AND we can power it up during loadshedding. then we just need to sort out power for the TV.

Somel inks on Google say not all HDMI have the 65nm chip ... but I found this. Going to check at home

It's what many have been waiting for. The new 65nm "Falcon" CPUs are found in the Halo 3 console. Besides being smaller, the 65nm chip is fifty percent less expensive to manufacture and apparently are more economic in heat output. Previous consoles featured a 90nm and have an abnormally high failure rate. According to a Halo 3 Special Edition console dissection by Gamertag "JWSpeed," the motherboard features a simplified heatsink. Removal of the heatsink reveals a new CPU with "CANADA" written on it. How to tell if your console has the new chip without ripping it apart? Check the barcode sticker on the side of the box. The 65nm chipped Halo 3 console was built August 24, 2007 from team "FDOU" and part of lot 734

@ Natas

Thank the gods that we dont have petrol engines for the 360 can you imagin the monthly playing cost.
Hmmm...ill have to syphon petrol from my car when it runs dry then... :D

The true test of the 65nm "Falcon" is on the power brick guys. Just look at teh rated power - Falcons are about 175W, Zephyrs and Xenons are around 200W.
