So I got an sms yesterday to the effect of:
You have been sent 4 Photos: Click http://quikview.co.za/m/<my number>/1 to open NOW. 2opt out sms stop

So, who would not be interested in some photo's? Maybe it's Jessica Biel sharing something intimate with me - who knows!

Being the common sensical stick in the mud type that I am, I decided to check out the site first. It offers you an opportunity to retrieve your pin (read - sign up for their bullcrap) and as per the terms and conditions page,
We do not charge anything extra, only the subscription cost of R7/day.

Please warn your loved ones, especially the more gullible ones. Jessica Biel isn't sharing anything with anybody yet. Not today.

More worrying is that I opted out of the message immediately.

Then a short while later I got this...

"Confirm your request for Quikview R7 /day. Reply "Yes" to confirm/"No" to cancel, free SMS."

This when I had said no to begin with. Sneaky mother****ers. I took screenshots just in case they have still signed me up and I need to fight it.

Ignored it yesterday, got another one today.

Who controls this stuff and how can it be stopped? It's pure fraud/deception. Even the supposed opt out is deceptive.

Also received the SMS yesterday, the domain registered with Hetzner. I have send an email to their abuse email address but suspect that they will not take down the domain.

I got exactly the same sms this morning and unsubscribed immediately, seems they auto subscribe you somehow - imo this is fraud...

OMG people. Do not unsubscribe/opt out! You are just confirming its a working number in a real life persons hand vs a SIM in a 3G stick or a SIM in some other machine...

GAH!

It did occur to me after the fact as well, but with the link that almost catches you with T&C's I rather went for it so I have evidence.

If you unsubscribe, you get an acknowledgement sms, then about an hour later you get a further cryptic sms from them:

Confirm your request for Quikview @ R7 /day. Reply "Yes" to confirm/"No" to cancel, free SMS.

Did the Vodacom 30333 with STOP ALL and no subscriptions on my profile... b@stards!

Got one too today on my Voda prepaid sim. Ignored it as it looked dodge. Just asked my wife and she got one yesterday which she thankfully ignored.

This is fraudulant - they will catch PLENTY of unaware folk with this scam.
