Saved up about R6000 for a PC. I'll need to buy everything for the box as well as a case. Already spent monies to buy all the peripherals and a beautiful screen :D:D:D

I'll be using the PC mostly for some epic gaming and HD movies/porn

What parts will I be looking at?

I can also buy most parts in Canada in June so I'll be able to save some money on them (mostly gfx) but a lot of the parts cost round about the same when you add import tax.

Sandy Bridge system.

If you are going to Canada you can try www.newegg.ca

I would by local though as returning stuff under warranty would be cheaper/simpler and also keep in mind you would have to pay 10%+14% on the value of the goods returning to SA.

Buy the big stuff here (like case), everything else is fine to do there but yes warranty is an issue. Its not 10%+14% though if you are bringing it back in your luggage. Then its a flat 20% above R3000. So if you bring back R5000 worth of stuff you have to pay: (5000-3000)*0.2 = R400 at customs

It would be better to buy everything in SA. You are going to have a lot of problems with Int. warranties etc...

What are you smoking?!?

Staple also asked this very same question at Twilight Gaming forums. I just said that he should ask this question in 2 months' time, because a lot can change in 2 months.

He should've mentioned that the R6k excludes an OS too.

Suggestions other than Sandy Bridge should be ignored - it's as simple as that.

You should be able to get something in the line of:
CPU: i3 2100 ~ R1200
M/B: H67 chipset ~ R1000
GFX: HD 6850 ~ R1600
RAM: 2x 2GB ~ R500
PSU: Asroc 470W ~ R500
HDD: 1TB ~ R580
Case: CM Elite 430 ~ R430
DVD drive ~ R180
Total: ~R6k

CPU: i5 2300
MOBO: Biostar TP67B
RAM: G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-4GBXL 2x2GB
GPU: vtx3d 6950
PSU: cx500w
CASE: cm elite 370
HDD: 500GB sata6G
OPTICAL: 24x DVD

Thats R6423.15 Now you can get a cheaper GPU like the 6870 but I wouldn't :p
You should try get the i5 2500
and definitely a better CPU cooler like: http://rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_90&products_id=6803
for a little more you can get a 1TB, but it's nice to have 1 HDD for OS and another for your media, so 500GB for OS, music and games, then the 1TB or 2TB for all those linux distros (movies and series :D )

not so loud :p

Hello you are here as well :D?

Thanks for the replies, have got an idea of where I want to go with this now

Update

Right, not waiting for Canada, buying NAOW. Need approval though and a couple of answers about this build:

Intel i5 2300 CPU - R1555
Asus P8H61 LGA1155 Motherboard - R886
Club3D Radeon HD6850 256bit - R1742
Gigabyte Odin 585W PSU - R511
Cooler Master Elite 343 Chassis - R266
Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD - R360
Kingston Value RAM DDR3 2GB x 2 - R398
LiteOn DVD Writer - R179
Total: R5890 All VAT incl.

Few things I need to know:

1. MB Specs suggest SATA 3.0Gb/s. The HD I'm thinking of buying is SATA 3 - 6.0Gb/s, compatible?
2. Will the Gfx card work on MB? HDMI? DVI? All that jazz?
3. Intel LGA775 Ready & Approved PSU, will this be compatible with the LGA1155 MB?
4. "When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended." It can still handle 64bit WIN OS right?
5. :D?

Stupid questions I know, but it's a lot of money and I need to be exactly sure I don't waste any.
