Sorry but I just had to post this.

I wanted to order something from Builders and have it delivered. My closest stores (Pmb) don't carry the item and won't order it for me to collect. But according to the web site, Newcastle will send it to me......... for TEN THOUSAND RAND delivery fee. The item only costs R590.

Had issue with my local TileAfrica.

Told me if I want tiles from other branch, need pay 2k delivery etc.
Phoned the other branch, they delivered for R99
 
For that money, I'll get in my car right now, drive to Builders nearby, buy that thingamabob and deliver it to you personally.
 
Obviously an error, did you enquire first before coming here?
 
They have finally sent me an email and would like assist me the delivery charge.

@Rocket-Boy - yip have been watching that for a while but came across such a deal at Builders that I couldn't resist looking.

@Batista just highlighting how errors can occur. I did change to a store in Durban and they quoted R2540 delivery. Still excessive though.

Anyway I'll see what they come back with and let you all know.
 
It is because you import too many items they now punish you on local deliveries. Once that saw arrives you must also go donate milk at your local municipality.
 
They phoned today and replicated the R10,000 delivery charge. I have asked them if they can arrange that the item is made available at my nearest store so that I can collect it next time I'm in the big city.
 
I had that as well just this weekend. I'm really hoping it's just a bug in the system!
 
Seems like it. The woman on the phone managed to duplicate the shipping fees while I was talking to her. Now I'm just waiting for a call from the store I wish to collect from. Expected a call today but nothing.

The longer I’ve been in dev the more annoyed I get with websites/apps etc. sometimes I feel like asking the companies just give me access to the app source code so I can fix it as some bugs I’ve complained about exist years on..
 
If it was me I would have coded in a fail safe that would look for anomalies. So if the shipping exceed a certain amount then customer and agent are alerted to a potential problem. Most sites offer free shipping over a certain amount. Many charge extra for heavy items. Can't be that hard to look for anomalies where the shipping cost exceeds a certain amount and the cart total is below a certain amount.
