Well I'm in the market for a new Laptop, I'm not too clued up on all the different brands, quality, performance etc so I would like to hear what you guys think. I'd prefer brand new as well.

Basically it can be around R7000, must be able to play games(so no onboard Intel graphics) 2Gb RAM(Pref 4Gb), 250GB+ HDD, Any size screen(14'-17'), a decent Processor(Either AMD or Intel, I don't mind), A full keyboard would be nice but not necessary. Asking a lot hey? :P

Any suggestions? :) Thanks guys

You will not find a laptop capable of playing games for 7k dude.

7k will get you a basic laptop for work not gaming.

You will however be able to play Solitaire and some older games. :D

Yeah, what he said. Unless by games you're meaning spider solitaire. That being said, Intel claim that the X4500 graphics are impressive, and will handle some games reasonably well. It sure as heck won't handle FPS very well, but I could imagine it handling some of the racing games fine, at a reasonable res.

Maybe get a second hand laptop if you're wanting one with a gfx card. New ones, esp with gfx cards are ALOT more than R7000!

EDIT: Damn kilo, ya beat me :(

I would be very careful of that link if i was you.

That oke has 0 posts. Awfully high specced laptop for so cheap. Looks like a possible scam to me. Everything written in caps is generally a very bad sign.

LOL... I've seen him in the classifieds for ages... seems like a non scammer.

I have dealt with the following seller, Kelvin, and he is above board..

Perhaps email him and ask him to mail you anything he has in that price range.

I purchased from him (Kelvin) before and everything was 100%.

Ok cool i get very worried when i see a 0 under posts :D.

This is SA afterall.

No, you are SOOOOO right. The number of scammers out there is absolutely frightening! It pays to err on the side of caution. If it is seems like a deal is just too good to be true... then it IS!!!!

Also, try email Itai at Digital Addiction... he just may have something in that price range for you too. He is also accommodating and has made a plan for me in the past... he comes with a 100% trustworthy rating I can assure you... him no speak with fork tongue.

Hmm, that sucks then. :/ I suppose I could push the price to around R8000 then, not that it's going to really get me near what I want correct? I'm not to keen on secondhand just for the fact that I'd like it new, in it's box no scratches and all that.

I use to have a MacBook 2007 with Intel GMA1300 or something in it and it sucked bad so I'm skeptical about Intel graphics. I don't want to max games, just like to play them with a decent playable frame rate.

If anything comes up guys please let me know. Hard Drive doesn't really matter 160Gb should be fine, 2Gb Ram etc

Thanks :)

That Intel x4500 chip will run older games fine (e.g. Q3A and UT), and the graphics lite indie games. When I tried it with Burnout Paradise and Dead Space, it chunked along badly. This is with 3GB ram and a 2.13GHz processor. Haven't tried much else, since I have a desktop to game with, I was just testing for kicks.

Well, if you push it to R8600... you can get the following new!

GIGABYTE 934FZA-V Notebook - Intel Core2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR2 800MHz, 8x DVD Multi Writer, 2.0MP Webcam, Bluetooth 2.1 500GB SATA HDD, 15.4" Wide Glare Type 1280x800 LCD, nVidia GeForceGo 9600M GS 512MB, LAN, Modem, WiFi b/g/n LAN, HDMI, eSATA Windows 7 Home Premium, Media Card Reader, Gigabyte 2 Year Warranty

Regular Price: R 8,999.00
Special Price: R 8,599.00

That's why I don't want Intel. Can't perform.

Bit over my budget but I suppose I'll manage. Got a 9600M GS in it, would prefer ATI but oh well. Is a 9600M GS any good?

Edit: PC Zone has a HP ProBook 4170S for R8299, Intel Core2Duo P7300 2Ghz | 3GB DDR2 800 RAM | 320GB HDD | ATI HD 4330 512MB Dedicated | Numpad | HDMI | 17.3" HD Screen |

I'd say that isn't too bad for the price?

Yoiks.. did not see you were in Dubbin by die see!

That is not a bad price at all for that... you can't beat PcZones it would seem!

Edit:

Here is a review of that HP..

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-ProBook-4710s-Notebook.20166.0.html

Verdict

HP ProBook 4710s

Basically HP wants to attract price-conscious business customers who appreciate reliability and functional design with the Probook 4710s. Its pros are an excellent keyboard and a very bright and evenly illuminated LED screen. Unfortunately the reviewed notebook was equipped with a glare-type (glossy) display. For many users this might be an important criterion against a permanent professional use. Fortunately HP also offers models with matte display.

Anyway, size and weight of this 17.3-incher hint on being designed for desk top usage. Furthermore, the temperature emissions advise against a use on the lap and the system noise is probably striking in quiet environments.

Its Core 2 Duo T6570 CPU and the ATI Mobility Rateaon HD 4330 graphics card provide a good performance for office applications and undemanding 3D tasks. Likewise you can be satisfied with the battery life.

Overall, the Probook 4710s proves to be an interesting bundle for not much money. However, because of the reflecting display, the test sample is rather an entry-level multimedia device. Performance and connectivity (HDMI) would also fit.

I've been looking around and the 9600M GS seems to be better than the 4330.

Fine. I'll stretch my budget even further(sigh) I might as well pay a bit more and get what I want and need. R9500 is my max.

Anything good within that range?

That's what I was going to recommend.

I'm stuck between the 2. They both seem like nice machines although my last Gigabyte Laptop I had died on me, so I'm edging toward the HP but I like the graphics card in the Gigabyte. :/

Decisions..
