Good day,

So I'll ask this here, considering I can't find a solution to my little problem.

I have a R9 280X GPU. Everything is working like a charm. Right now I have two display's set up (1 x HDMI, and 1 x DVI). Here is where the issue starts. I have another DVI port, and a DisplayPort. When ever I connect my display, nor Windows or the Catalyst Control Center picks up the 3rd display. The 3rd display is in working condition.

I was thinking of getting a Displayport to DVI-I converter to get the 3rd display working. Thing is, I can't find one. I tried the Matrix warehouse (They don't even know what a DVI cable is, let alone Display) and MR computer down the road. Neither have any such adapters.

Is there any way of getting the 3rd display to work without any additional converters or adapters? If I'll need adapters, where can I buy said adapters/Converters?

For a 3rd display you WILL have to make use of the DisplayPort on the graphics card, and like you said you'll require an Active converter from DP to DVI/HDMI.

Stupid question perhaps, why does it have to an active adapter? AFAIK, HDMI and DP are electrically compatible, and DVI and HDMI are too, in fact, I even have a mini-DP to DVI adapter which is just connectors at each end.

What R9 280X do you have? The new R9 versions of the HD7970 should be able to do Eyefinity without a DP-DVI adapter. Although if it's just a re-branded HD7970, then only a DP adapter will help you achieve this, and an active one at that.

Yes, you need an Active adapter - read the link that I posted: http://www.migee.com/2012/12/20/act...whats-the-difference-why-does-eyefinity-care/

@NAG-Wesley:
AFAIK only the Sapphire Flex cards support 3x digital displays without having to use a DisplayPort.

AMD actually changed the default port setup for the R7 and R9 series reference designs so that Eyefinity could be done with just HDMI and DVI-D. Some board partners just decided to take their existing HD7970s, flash them to a R9 280X BIOS, stick on a new label and call it a day.

IIRC, only ASUS and Gigabyte had the proper port layout ready on launch day, MSI and Sapphire did not. That's mostly changed now and its a much better idea than when you were forced to use DP or mini-DP. You do need DVI-D cables for this to work, though. Perhaps that's OP's problem, which is why I asked which R9 280X he's using.

That's also what I read, not sure which ones though...

Does this include the R9 290X?

AFAIK, the R9 290/290X has the same port arrangements and works in the same way as the rest of the R-200 series with regards to Eyefinity and multi-monitor.

People really should read this to understand what is going on, technically speaking:

I had forgotten about the TMDS sharing! If that's OP's issue, then I concede that he may need a Displayport-DVI adapter anyway.

It's a Powercolor...

Well, I know they only recently (in the past month) moved to the new revisions for the R9 and R7 series, so you probably have a firmware-upgraded HD7970, but without the updates to Eyefinity that is in the newer revisions of the 280X. So you'll probably need that Displayport-DVI adapter.
