I think during the time of apartheid the rabbit was the symbol of the ANC.

I remember FNB got flack be cause there was supposedly a rabbit hidden in their tree logo.

The old FNB logo was changed to one that featured a tree. A furore erupted after it was pointed out that the branches of the tree formed the outline of Africa and featured the shape of a leaping rabbit, thought at the time to be one of the symbols of the ANC. Other overzealous conspiracy theorists even claimed the tree contained a rifle aimed into the heart of Africa, a springbok leaping over Africa and a crocodile (possibly a reference to former president PW Botha) floating upside down. As a result of the pressure, FNB redesigned the logo with thicker branches.
