Does anyone own a racing wheel?

I was loking for one with a clutch ( G27/Thrustmaster RGT), but is it worth getting one with a cutch?,

Do any racing sims even use the clutch?, I think most dont require it

thx

A clutch is handy at race starts but other than that even the most hardcore of sim racers make use of auto clutch when gearing. This is an option you can enable or disable in proper sims like rFactor however. G27 is a quality wheel though, and is streaks ahead of anything else in the market.

Thanks Tarantul

What then is a good clutchless racing wheel ?

I got the G25 and as we put it , its like driving a truck.
Compared to one the old sidewinder steering wheels i got the G25 is a steering wheel you fight with all the time.
Using it on GT is not easy, i have had to start the game from stratch and do the license from start just because the steering wheel is just not easy.

Attempting to do the clutch with manual is and will always be hard, i do not know why( could it be cause of no g's on your body, or the feeling of an engine like you would in a car) but all i can say it adds to the entertainment.

These wheels are really not for messing around, the amounts of energy i have to find to be able to make the car listen to what i want to do is a mission, the wheel is so strong that it really messes my races up.

There is another game which i use it for street legal racing redline, which makes the game actually a whole lot of fun.

Here is my 5c's

If you can mannage to find one out there...GET THE LOGITECH MOMO steering wheel

I have had mine for about 2 years now and all I can say is brilliant. If you are not one of those die hard race sim players it is fine for any racing game out there. Sure it is bulky but it feels solid and the gear lever can be put on any side of the wheel. There is also a set of flappy paddles on the back of the wheel for geer changing.

I have a cheap old Logiteck Momo. Maybe the Driving Force GT or whatever it's called is a better choice because of more wheel rotation.

But if you're willing to spend a lot of cash, look at Fanatec wheels.

I recommend the Logitech Driving Force GT. It has force feedback and a 900 degree turning circle. The shifter is fixed on the right so that might irritate you.

I own the G27 and it's a good wheel but I don't think it's worth twice the price of the GT as it stands now. The manual shifter is nice but it's not a good simulation of real gear changing because there is no feedback on the clutch. One plus is the paddle shifters.

There is the new Thrustmaster T500RS which looks awesome but that it's probably going to be twice the price of the G27. It has a clutch but the shifter is an additional add on which will only be released in a few months. Nevermind the wait for the T500RS to come to SA.
