Racist driver forced us off the bus

But surely in this situation it couldnt have been just the white kids causing trouble and the black kids all sitting quietly in a corner with their finger on their mouth :p

That's my feeling too. I only hope that this incident recieves the same attention as it would if the roles were reversed i.e. a white driver throwing black kids off a bus with racial insults thrown in.

Could not possibly agree with you more PiesangTee.
Things have changed a bit since then though, in those days people were being necklaced all over the show and there was a very real chance that the issue could escalate.
 
Yeah - I remember them well - I know what you mean. I used to catch a school bus in the EC too - in fact my wife just missed a hit on her work bus when terrorists opened fire on it with AK47s and grenades... do you remember the DaGama incident?

Maybe the black kids were seating at the back of the buss, just like in the old days:D Our mate was thrown out of an Intercape Buss from PE-CT. I'm sure these days, we could have easily turned that into a race issue. We were drunk and misbehaving because Intercape put all the black guys at the back of the bus and this was suppose to be random seating:D

On a serious note though, blacks can be racist. There are many blacks who despise white people for reasons I'd rather not discuss. Thanks God that the vast majority of blacks have made peace with respect to those reasons.

What I've seen of Parktown boys and girls on buses has always been polite.. "thank you sir" to the bus driver etc. It could have been a case of him having a bad day, maybe had some "angry white dude" shout at him earlier, now stuck in some kuk traffic, so he takes a one block detour, and these kids going to rich schools he can't afford to send his kids to come and tell him, who has done the job for years, that he is going the wrong way... snap? Yeah, he did overreact and it appears to be blatantly racist, but given the right(wrong?) set of circumstances it could happen to anyone...

Agreed - except bus drivers???:D Only joking!
Any child travelling on a school bus is under the care and responsibility of the driver though, no matter what, and it's his duty to ensure that they reach their destination safely, his actions of throwing them off the bus was completely irresponsible.

That is a very important point. In fact, the buss driver should be made accountable for this reason.

WTF ?? black kids had to sit at the back of the buss thats just racism :p

I remember when I was still in school we had to run for the buss to get a backseat and sometimes still fight for it :D :D (was post apartheid though)

My little bus memory :)
When I was about 15 myself and a m8 were literally thrown off a bus in the middle of town by an angry black mob.
First they did not let us off at our stop and during the ordeal, which lasted about half an hour, we were pinned at the back of a crowded bus and told we were off to the township for a necklacing. This was during the height of tensions in the eastern cape and it was a harrowing experience, so I can surely sympathise with the kids if they are innocent of any wrong doing.

Our incident, however, was all my m8's fault, as one drunk guy bumped and dinged his surfboard my m8 called him a Ka**ir. Then all hell broke loose.
Frankly, I'm surprised they did not kill us. Cant say i would have been so generous.

Have you traveled on a Metro Bus lately? Sometimes you get cool drivers, most of the time you get these d!cks who are the rudest SOB`s, ive seen since the Waterkloof 4.

Yeah... we should make exceptions for kids who would sign an affidavid stating that they believe they are groot manne and should be treated as such :) ... if you catch my drift...
 
Imagine the situation reversed whith black children racially abused (regardless of what started the scene). It would make headlines and the company would have to make a statement etc.

Remember that white person at Old Mutual who said something - not even directly - racist and the whole issue exploded in the newspaper.
 
But theres always the perception all white people are racist just like theres a perception with whites that its only them affected by crime.
 
We were once sjamboked by a bus driver during the days of the NDC (the green mamba's) buses in Durban. Then I was once caught aboard the metrorail train without a ticket. I was thrown out at the following station and made to do pushups with my knuckes on the concrete floor with the security guard's boot resting on my back. Those guys can be very tempermental. But I think this one went overboard considering that today's kids are quiet outspoken and they know their rights very well. He does not have the right to throw anyone out of the bus. If anyone is causing trouble he is welcome to drive to the nearest police station and dump them there. The taxi drivers do that to the drunks that cause trouble in a taxi.


sorry to sidetrack... I 've just seen the weirdest thing during my lunch hour. A white guy was driving a taxi from Soweto to Noord taxi rank. Talk about transformation!!!
