Radar / Laser Detectors in ZA?

Any folks out there have any experience and recommendations on a detection device that works well in ZA? (Appreciate the legality aspects and not looking to debate these etc.)
I've heard that the older models aren't effective in ZA due to Traffic Dept upgrading their equipment but no idea what will/would be effective here.
Had a brief look at these ones and come highly rated overseas, not cheap but could save your bacon:
