Hi all,

I am not a Gamer per se.

I'm currently playing Quake 4 and it's the first game I've played in as long as I can remember.

In December I installed a new Radeon HD 6800.

My monitor is a Samsung 24' WS.

They are connected via HDMI.

OS: XP 32

I'm not clued up on this stuff, but I'm told that I have a pretty potent graphics card. Before you ask, I laid out the cash because I use my PC as a media centre and I didn't want to have to upgrade in six months again.

When I max' out the graphics settings in Quake 4 and restart the app', it gives me an error and resets everything to lower settings.

I have Googled this, but found nothing concrete in terms of a solution.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers [latest now].

Have any of you encountered this issue, and if so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks.

Easy solution; don't max out everything :)
Also it would if we knew what the error message states.

Ola,

This card should run this game on max' without breaking a sweat.

"There was an error with the display settings, safe defaults have been selected"

:/

Thanks.

According to this it may be the new batch of drivers causing the issue, however is your quake 4 fully patched up ? That might be causing the issue, Same applies to your windows you should try upgrade to service pack 3 atleast for the security reasons, although if you want maxed settings why not try downloading a extreme high quality config and place it directly into your games directory.

My 2 cents peace out.

Hi DM,

Thanks for that link.

The in-game patch updater says I have the latest version.

I've just reinstalled and tried updating again. Same thing.

My OS is 100% patched.

I'll try the config' idea. Thank you.

Problem solved.

I downloaded the entire Point update last night.

It's now working. What a difference! :D

I don't know wtF the in-game updater said it was patched.

Thanks for your help everyone. :)
